A few simple steps that can make the process of career change, transition or choice a lot easier.

Buy a Folder! Put all information about courses you like, Open Days, interesting articles from the news paper or any other career related information that appeals to you.  You should also keep outcomes from any aptitude assessments, certificates of completed courses, awards that you receive in your folder. By doing this you have all relevant information in the one place.

Write your Career Story. Put an A4 refill pad into your folder. Begin to write down all the points that are important to you about your future. Don’t be shy this is your story, so write down your dream. Add in all of the things that are important to you about your career AND the things that you know you don’t want to do. Give yourself 15 minutes per week to write your career story.

Keep an Open Mind – Ash yourself the hard questions now. It is better to find out as much information as you can about the course, training or job that you are thinking about now rather than a year from now. Make your choice based on what you love and what you are interested in.

Ask for Help – Make a fully informed decision by asking everybody and anybody you talk to about their career. Find out how they got their job, where they studied, ask about the pro’s and con’s of the job and any other questions you can think of. Negotiate your way through all of this information and make an informed choice.
