What if I did not get a Higher C3 in Maths? 

If you did not get a Higher C3 in Leaving Cert Maths 2016 and you don’t meet specific entry requirements for your CAO course choices – STOP. Take a deep breath as all is not lost. If you didn’t get a Higher C3 in Leaving Cert Maths exam 2016 you can sit a ‘second’ chance or special maths exam.

Leaving Cert Special Maths Exam

Special Maths exams offered by individual colleges are for students

  1. who got the points,
  2. has all other entry requirements for their course,
  3. with the exception of the Higher C3 Maths.

Eligibility for Special Maths Exam

Eligibility to sit a Special Maths exams is simple

  1. you  have applied for a course in Engineering, Science or IT and
  2. you have met all other entry requirements for those courses including the 2016 points.

Restrictions are placed on the numbers admitted from the special maths exam. The percentage accepted differs from college to college. Depending exclusively on the number of places available for each individual college to offer

NUI Galway Engineering & IT Programmes August 24th, 2016.

Maynooth University Engineering Programmes August 23rd, 2016.

DIT Engineering Programmes August 24th 2016.

UL Engineering & Science Programmes August 25th, 2016.

Cork IT  August 23rd, 2016.

Waterford IT, August 28th, 2016.

Each college offers intensive preparatory courses for students intending to sit these exams.
